Rheumatic Heart Disease

What is Rheumatic Heart Disease?

 Rheumatoid arthritis is also called 'Rheumatic Fever'. This is an inflammatory disorder, which is caused by throat infection caused by Streptococcus bacteria. It affects body tissues, which results in arthritis and other symptoms for a few days. In some cases, rumatic fever damages the heart and its valves, and this condition is called 'Rheumatic Heart Disease'.

 Rheumatic fever can also lead to permanent damage to the heart, which may include conditions such as damage to the heart or its valve and stopping heart. It can be chronic, inefficient and sometimes deadly. Swelling can affect the heart, causing symptoms such as pain in the chest, fatigue, and breathlessness.

 However this problem can be prevented. This is very common in children 5-14 years old. Antibiotics are used to treat bad throat and throat infections, which can prevent the development of rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever, Streptococcus does not affect every person with throat infection.

 Symptoms of Rheumatic Heart Disease

 The 'rheumatic heart disease' has no symptoms or signs for many years or shows some mild symptoms, such as:

 * Breathing problem while exercising or working.
 * Fever.
 * Swelling of the joints, lalimana and excessive pain, especially in the knee and elbow joints.
 * Swelling in the face and feet.
 * Stress.
 * Weakness.
 * Unconsciousness.
 * Pain in Chest.
 * Heartbeat fast, strong or irregular.

 The long-term complications of rheumatic heart disease are very serious and include the following types of symptoms and signs:

 * Stopping heart rate (when the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs).
 * Infections in heart valves.
 * Heart beat beating fast or turbulent rhythm.
 * Stroke due to the formation of a blood clot in the heart, or breakdown of damaged valves, which block blood vessels in the brain.

 Consult Doctor.

 If your child has signs and symptoms of Streptococcus throat infection, then there is a possibility of a rheumatic fever, and therefore should be shown to the doctor immediately. Sufficient treatment of streptococcus can help prevent rheumatic fever. Early treatment and diagnosis of the disease can stop its progress.

 Causes of Rheumatic Heart Disease

 It is believed that there is a rheumatic fever due to the immune system reacting strongly to the Streptococcus bacteria.
 > Almost all cases of rheumatic fever develop within a few weeks of infection in the throat. Swelling and burning sensation in the inner layer of the throat during throat infections, because the immune system starts reacting to infection.

 > Repeated rheumatic fever increases the likelihood of rheumatic heart disease.

 > In rheumatic heart disease, the process of swelling spreads in the body in an arbitrary manner. It is not known why the body's immune system suddenly stops working.

 > The structure of streptococcal bacteria is similar to some tissues in the body. Therefore, the immune system does not target bacteria only, but it also strikes on those tissues, whose structure is like bacteria.

 > There is also a theory that some people are born with certain genetic characteristics, which develops the immune system more likely to have a malady after throat infection.

 > Due to the inflammation caused by rheumatic fever, there may be permanent damage to the heart, especially the valves of the heart.

 > The healthy valve of the heart opens with every heartbeat of the heart and seals all four chambers of the heart, from which blood does not get flown in the wrong direction. In the rheumatic heart disease, these valves are not fully open and closed. Because of which the heart can not completely pump the blood and it becomes very tense.

 Prevention of Rheumatic Heart Disease.

 The following steps can be taken to prevent developing rheumatic heart disease:

 * Keep the heart tested regularly by the cardiologist.

 * Keep regular antibiotic prevention to prevent infection of streptococcus throat.

 * Use antibiotics for infection in the early diagnosis or for infection where appropriate.

 * Antibiotics - In order to prevent bacterial infections in the damaged areas of the heart, antibiotics are given to some people before dental and surgical procedures.

 * Keep the teeth clean and healthy (such as toothbrush flossing, check-up of teeth doctor, etc.), because when bacteria get in the blood from the mouth, they can cause problems like swelling in the inner layer of the heart.

 * Good care before birth - because defective pregnancy can make the situation of rheumatic heart disease more difficult.
